Getting to Liverpool

Liverpool lies on the west coast of the UK along the Irish Sea, and is crossed by the Mersey River. Liverpool is most famous as the birthplace of the Beatles, and the local airport was renamed in honor of one of them, John Lennon.

UK domestic operators Eastern Airways, EasyJet, and FlyBe serve John Lennon Airport. Irish based Ryanair has a big presence at Liverpool, KLM maintains daily service from Amsterdam, plus WizzAir flies to 3 cities in Poland. Charter operators offer flights to Spain and Turkey from Liverpool.

Airlink buses connect John Lennon Airport with the South Parkway railroad station and with central Liverpool.
Terravision coach services connect John Lennon Airport with downtown Manchester, a ride of about 60 minutes. National Express coaches connect central Liverpool with downtown Manchester, where passengers can transfer to the entire National Express coach network covering the UK.

Liverpool is about 220 miles northwest of London, with the least expensive travel provided on Megabus, departing from Lime Street in central Liverpool to either Victoria station or Waterloo station in London.
Virgin Trains depart Liverpool Lime Street station on a 2-hour journey to London Euston station throughout the day.
London Midland railroad service connects Liverpool Lime Street station with the city of Birmingham, while other cities are served by Northern and Merseyrail.

Mersey Travel operates the Liverpool public transport buses, underground trains and suburban ferries running to Seacombe and Wirral. Ferry services across the Irish Sea aboard Norfolk Line connect Liverpool with Belfast and Dublin, while service to Douglas on the Isle of Man is provided by Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. .

By car, Liverpool is easily reached by the M58 from the north, and M6 and M62 motorways from the south which link to neighboring communities. The Queensway and Kingsway tunnels cross the Mersey River.
